Our Story

The Northeastern University World Language Center will host its first ever Chinese STARTALK program in the summer of 2021.

This is a free, non-credit language and culture program for rising 9th-12th graders.  We will enroll 20 highly motivated students to go on a virtual trip to Taiwan. Students will learn how to navigate urban life in the modern and dynamic city of Taipei and see how Taiwan’s COVID-19 restrictions are impacting daily life.

Program Highlights:

  • Each student will receive a box of learning materials (a map, snacks, milk tea packs, etc.)
  • Students will practice speaking Chinese with native speakers daily in small groups
  • Students will interact with AI chatbots – programs that simulate human conversation
